Howard Altarescu

Chief Legal Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, has almost 50 years of mortgage finance strategic, advisory and structuring expertise. He has been involved in many of the seminal transactions in the structured finance markets, including the first capital markets transactions for Freddie Mac and the first CMO transaction; the first IO/PO transactions for Fannie Mae; several of the first senior/sub securitizations; innumerable RTC securitizations; as well as credit risk transfer transactions with Fannie Mae.

During more than 20 years at Goldman Sachs, Howard was head of mortgage finance and co-head of mortgage and asset backed finance; was responsible for structured finance in the emerging markets; served as COO for Goldman’s mortgage principal finance business; and was responsible for capital markets coverage for several of Goldman’s key mortgage industry clients. Prior to Goldman, Howard helped build and lead the RMBS and ABS practice as a partner at Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, at the very beginning of the securitization markets. After Goldman, Howard was a partner at Orrick Herrington, serving as Orrick's Finance Sector Leader responsible for implementing the firm's strategy to provide distinctive transactional, litigation and regulatory services to financial institution clients globally, as well as co-head of the firm’s Finance Business Unit.

For 20 years, Howard served as Chairman of the Board of Renaissance Youth Center, a not-for-profit organization that provides STEM education and music programming to thousands of boys and girls in the South Bronx each week. Howard remains on the Board as Chairman Emeritus. Howard is a graduate of the Boston University Questrom School of Business and of the Boston University School of Law.
